Cucumber eater #802456

Asked July 22, 2022, 11:43 AM EDT

Something is chewing upper stems and the cucumbers themselves. Strange “teeth” marks on cucumbers.

Sibley County Minnesota

Expert Response

Thanks for the question.

This looks like the activity of a rodent. Often in times of drought, critters such as chipmunks, squirrels, and mice will resort to eating things such as cucumbers in order to get water. I would suggest that you cover your plants with some type of row cover fabric to keep these animals away. See:

Good luck
