Swamp White Oak Leaves Turning Yellow #802424

Asked July 22, 2022, 9:20 AM EDT

Hi, In the last couple of weeks, the leaves of our swamp white oak are turning yellow. The swamp white oak was planted two years ago and was about 8 feet tall when purchased. Are the leaves turning yellow due to a lack of water? Also, one of the pictures shows holes in the leaf and also some ants crawling around on the leaf. Is the tree stressed? Is there anything I should do? Thanks, John

Expert Response

Leaves may turn yellow if the soil pH is too high.  A soil test will confirm this. See:

Holes in leaves can come from a variety of pests.  The following website shows you what to look for.

Ants are usually a sign that aphids are present.  Ants are attracted to the honey like substance excreted by aphids.
