How can I save my pepperoncinis? #802251

Asked July 20, 2022, 2:00 PM EDT

I have a pepper plant that is growing super well and is full of peppers. But it has an aphid problem that I’m working on and the stem looks like this. Is there anything I can do to hopefully save it?

Itasca County Minnesota

Expert Response

There appears to be some black sooty mold that thrives on the honeydew waste products of the aphids. Washing the mold off can be tricky because the honeydew is very sticky.  Be sure all the aphids are gone and gently scrub the black areas on the stem. See the website for more information.
