Yew Tree Brown #802185

Asked July 20, 2022, 9:26 AM EDT

Hello!

We have an established row of Yew trees that are approximately 12-15 feet in height. Some of the trees have recently started to go brown. They are all getting the same water.

I think that I uploaded photos but I can't tell if they are there. Let me know I need to try again.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Kristen,

We can see the pictures. Did this problem start recently? Yews are pretty disease resistant-usually they turn brown from salt or winter damage but recover and from what I see of their location they are not exposed to salt. Up until recently it has been very dry and hot and that will cause them to turn brown. Also the opposite can cause them to turn brown if the ground is very wet there.

Thanks for the quick reply!  The problem started several weeks ago and seems to have spread a bit.  It’s been very dry but it’s odd to me that it’s only some of the trees.  No salt and it’s not wet where they are.

Any ideas about something we should do or do we assume it’s the dry weather and they will likely recover?

Hi Kristen,

The ones will deeper roots make be sucking up all the water before the other ones.

You could water the ones that are struggling.
