Note the yellow, plain face. Is that called the "Clypeus"? Both Anthophora urbana males and Hylaeus males have similar faces, but not bodies.
The body is almost completely black except around the head.
I'm confused and appreciate any assistance.

I asked our taxonomist, Lincoln Best, about this one. He says it could be one of the two carpenter bee species in the state, but leans towards the one that is not metallic, Xylocopa tabaniformis. Yes, males in many species of a brightly colored clypeus, and this bee is no exception.
