Shrub with red berries #801700

Asked July 17, 2022, 10:26 PM EDT

Attached is a photo of a shrub that had red berries on it until I came with a camera to take a picture. However, what interested me is that the berries looked conjoined like two berries that formed together like Siamese twins. Can you help me identify this shrub? It is growing on a lake shore in St. Louis County, three miles northwest of Babbitt, MN. The shrub is roughly five feet tall.

Thanks for the question.

You looking at an American Honeysuckle (Lonicera canadensis). You are absolutely correct in your observation that the two berries seem to be conjoined. This is a result of their flower structure. Perhaps the following might provide more information:

Interesting plant. Birds love them.
