Hi! I have what I think is a black hills spruce and the leader started dying this year from the top down. It continues to die going lower and lower.
Do you think the tree can be saved? The tree is about 15 ft high or so and has been healthy up to this year. Is this the white pine weevil. I've attached pics to show damage, but I'm unable to get real close.

One reason could be winter wind and drying damage. In that case, the top is dead but the bottom is still alive.
Otherwise, Pine wilt disease or pine weevils are the top choices.
Bark beetles are less likely in a young tree.
