Concord grape split skin issue #801253

Asked July 15, 2022, 8:34 AM EDT

I have three vines that are 15-20 years old. This year is the largest yield by far. I inspect the grapes daily to remove bad grapes and the main culprit this year are grapes that have split skin. It has the appearance of an internal explosion (attached). A few dozen gapes are affected each day which isn't a disaster because of the loading this year. Yet it would be good to know what this malady is and if I can do anything to minimize the damage.

Expert Response

From my experience i think it is caused by the weather, meaning to much water following a drought or just to much water for a long spell. This has been an interesting year for rain and i am losing a tree because of to much water. This is also a problem when we have hot weather and lots of rain.

Sorry about you're tree. Too much water makes sense. I don't water but still too much this year. At least it's not a spreading disease. Thanks for the insight.
