Help! Sick cherry tree #800433

Asked July 11, 2022, 12:15 AM EDT

A normally robust cherry tree in my yard is very Ill- it had zero cherries this year and now the leaves have spots, are curling and falling off. I had attributed the lack of cherries to the extended cold and Rainy spring but not the tree disease. Any advice welcome!

Expert Response

The cherries this year are having a hard time indeed. Continue to chalk this one up to the wet weather we had. The little purple spots on top with white powder on the underside is called cherry leaf spot. A problem during our springs but not when it dries up for the summer. I have it all through my research plots this year. Back in the mid-west it is major problem defoliating trees which in turn will reduce yield the next year.
