why are my ash tree leaves curling #799690
Asked July 06, 2022, 2:36 PM EDT
My ash tree, planted 18 years ago with a trunk diameter of about 9-10 inches, has leaves curling on the whole tree this year. The leaves so far have a good green color. Some leaves are rolled, no signs of aphids or other insects present, some are very curly. I do a soil drench every spring with Bayer tree and shrub solution for emerald ash borer with no sign of any problem last year. The tree gets lawn water every day plus I have been giving it water with the hose in addition. I can see no sign of bored entry on the trunk and to me it doesn't fit the symptoms of emerald ash borer. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
Thank You

Hello!
Would it be possible for you to send some pictures? That might help us troubleshoot the issue.
Another option would be for the tree team to come and do a site visit to come inspect it in person. It costs $25 for them to come out and look at 2 trees.
Thanks!
Here are some photos of our ash tree. I would love to have the tree team come and look at it if they could.
Thanks,
Kent Erickson

I've sent a message to the tree team about your tree. They will be contacting you directly to set up an appointment time. I hope they are able to help you get your tree on the road to recovery. The Adams County Fair is in 2 weeks, and the Master Gardener Coordinator is on vacation all week, so I cannot give you a time frame when you will be contacted.
Thanks so much for the great photos. They are very helpful.
Hi, I still havent been contacted by the tree team for an appointment time. The gentleman I spoke with on 7/19 also said he would let them know I still wanted someone to come out and look at it.
Thanks,
Kent Erickson
Kent,
Please accept our sincerest appologies for our tardiness in getting the tree team over to look at your tree.
The Extension office has been short staffed because of illness , summer holidays, and the county fair. We just wrapped up the county fair. The Master Gardener office should be back in operation.
I will text the Master Gardener Coordinator, Cassey Anderson with your email. If you do not hear back in a couple of days, you may need to contact her directly :

She is the person who arranges the tree visits.

I passed this back along to the tree team again. I will follow up in a couple of days to make sure they received it and have followed up.
Thanks,
Eric
