Trouble with our River Birch tree #799457

Asked July 05, 2022, 11:15 AM EDT

We planted a small river birch this spring, and it has already grown and spread out nicely. About a month or so ago, its leaves started turning yellow with spotting on them. We researched and then started spraying it with something called Bioadvanced insect, Disease, and Mite Control. The tree would look better for days and then develop increasingly more yellow leaves. Clearly, what we're doing isn't working. Please help us with our little tree.

Expert Response

Hi Linda,

Your river birch is heat stressed, which can cause leaf yellowing. If the leaves bother you, you can clip them off for aesthetics, otherwise they will fall off on their own in time. Maintain a proper mulch ring around the tree and keep it watered, especially during heat spells.
