Thank you for your question.Aphids, mites, caterpillars, potato leaf hopper, plant bugs, and bean leaf beetles all eat green beans. None of their usual feeding patterns cause the brown edges pictured on the second picture. The first picture is caused by green leaf beetles. If you delay your planting until the middle of June you will avoid the first group of bean leaf beetles.
Green bean beetle adult is oval-shaped and typically dark yellow with a black triangle at the “neck" region and other black markings. Adults can be green, yellow, orange, and red with a black triangle at the “neck" region and other black markings. Bean leaf beetles often drop to the ground when plants are disturbed. In the afternoon between 12 and 4 p.m position a pail filled with soapy water underneath the plant. Shake the plant and catch them as they fall. Neem (effective for several days) and Spinosad (effective for about one week) will kill this insect. Be sure to apply spray on the underside of the leaves. The next two sites have more information about the insect and diseases affecting green beans.
