Hi there, This morning while I was in my basement doing my weekly spot checks, I saw a dead bug on its back that was much larger than I’m used to seeing here in my Lakeside yard. I used the Seek app on my phone and it identified it as a California Root Borer Beetle (Prionus californicus). Digging further (ugh, a pun), I saw that those specific beetles aren’t found east of the midwestern states. Figured if this is indeed a California Root Borer that I might be one of the first in Virginia to spot one. I have it kept in a ziplock bag surrounded by foam to protect it from getting crushed.
