Hi all, I killed this hornet(?) inside of my house last night. Pictures aren’t super great for size purposes especially because it’s of course not “spread out” in the picture of it dead in the bag. I have a one year old and two dogs, so I would like to identify it so I can learn whether I need to worry about nests, stings, etc. I still have the carcass at home if that is helpful.

Hi,
We cannot see the insect clearly enough to make a positive ID. However, we suspect that it might be a European hornet. Please see these web pages to confirm. The pages have information on their lifecycle, nests, etc.:

It is not uncommon for one individual to enter a home. This is not an indication of a problem.
