something eating leaves of orange rocket barberry #797666

Asked June 24, 2022, 3:04 PM EDT

Last year we planted 3 orange rocket barberry shrubs. They have been doing well but I recently noticed that something is eating the leaves on the tops of branches (new growth). I haven't seen any pests, although I'm not sure what to look for. Wondering if you have any recommendations?

Your tops look nipped so my guess would be bunnies. They really like tender new shoots. Look for a 45 degree angle cut. I don’t think it is an insect pest because the damage is limited and all at the top. Saw flies just keep eating and devour everything but the mid ribs of leaves and stems.
