Asked June 23, 2022, 4:20 PM EDT

I just found a white fuzzy mildew type substance on my crabapple tree. Can you tell me what it is and what to do?

Expert Response

We can only give you information on common issues, without seeing a clear well lighted picture of the problem. It is also helpful to see a picture of the whole tree.

Here are a couple common issues-

Another possibility is lichen, which do no harm to the tree and should be left alone- https://njaes.rutgers.edu/fs1205/

To add pictures, click the link in your email and go into your question on the website. Click the “Drop files here or choose them” them” below the response box to attach them. You can upload .jpg, .png, .gif, .txt, or .pdf.
NOTE- each picture must be 8mb or less.

Include any history you can, how old the trees are, has any digging been done in the root area, how often they are watered and fertilized.
