what is wrong with my seedlings? #797142

Asked June 21, 2022, 7:43 PM EDT

Hi again - I started my own tomato and pepper plants. Some of the tomatos and some of the peppers have had new growth coming in stunted and twisted. Once I put the tomatos in the garden they started growing fine but the some of the peppers still have new growth all twisted and stunted. I took the best pics I could. What could be causing this? This has never happened to me before. Thank you very much for all of your help!!!

Thank you for your question, Chris.  There are several potential causes of this distortion of the leaves.  The most common is an insect, usually aphids or mites, that suck the chlorophyll out from underneath.   You'll need to search the plants' leaves' undersides.   Here is advice about their control: http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7404.html and http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/invertebrates/links.mites.html
Another, but probably less likely, cause is wind drift of an herbicide which targeted another plant.  Difficult to diagnose without information about that factor, and no "cure".  Good luck!
