Egg case identification #795560

We have maple tree in our front yard that had a branch tip girdled and what appears to be an egg casing of some kind on it. I was hoping to identify the insect that put it there.

after quite a bit of searching, I believe that is the egg casing for a praying mantis insect. it's the only one I found with that unusual shape.
