Cherry tree leaves turning brown #795534
Asked June 12, 2022, 12:38 PM EDT
The leaves have turned white extensively on our Ranier Cherry. Usually the outer half of the leaf
has become light brown with a dark brown fringe at the border with the green half.
It was full of blossoms which looked ready to set and fruit until after the 2nd freeze
then they all fell off which I noticed also on another tree in the neighborhood.
The Maple and the Bing Cherry right next to it seem to be getting enough water
and are in good health.
There are also black Aphids (More than usual this year) on the Ranier.
The damage doesn't much show in the tree picture, just their proximity.
Please advise,
Thanks in advance,

Can you attach recent photos of your trees and the leaves for me to see what is happening? We have seen many trees shows sign of leaf scorch from our freeze/heat/extreme wind conditions in May, but most have recovered at this point and are putting out normal new growth.
As for your aphid issues, I am attaching a few information links for you to decide which option is best for you. Aphids are soft-bodied insects that can easily be controlled with water or insecticidal soaps, but the are many options to choose from.

I did drag-and -drop some photo of the
tree and a close-up of the leaves.
Since I wrote you I have seen leaves on a Maple
and another tree (Not sure what kind, down by the Gazebo off Evans Creek & Ridgeview) which were affected
in the same manner--the ends of the leaves were dried
with a dark fringe on the border of the green part on the stem side.
Though by no means a tree expert, having observed the same damage on different kinds of trees around here I think it's safe to conclude it's not some kind of horrible blight, fungus or whatever else I saw when searching on 'diseases of Ranier Cherry Trees.'
( I just knocked the aphid -affected leaves off the
the branches which were near the trunk. Thanks for the aphid info, we've always had those, some years more, some less. We get 'em on our Kale too.)
Here is the Cherry leaf again, with the same kind of damage as the Maple and the other tree.
I was relieved to get your reply, we
like our tree and we get several gallons of fruit
in a good year,
