White worms/larvae in bagged soil #795326

Asked June 10, 2022, 4:31 PM EDT

I found thousands of these when I poured 3 20 quart bags of soil (organic) into growing bags. What are they? I stirred in diamotacious earth and spread soil on tarps. Population reduced but many are still wiggling. Can I do anything to salvage the soil?

Expert Response

Hi,
They appear to be termite crawlers. It's safe to use the "soil" in your grow bags. The remaining individuals will disperse. You can also move the soil into large plastic trash bags, let the termites cook in the sun, and then fill your bags.
