Douglas Fur Health #795311

Asked June 10, 2022, 3:15 PM EDT

Is this Douglas Fur healthy? It looks like a lot of needles have fallen off the inner parts of the branches. It did drop a lot of cones the past few months.

It is perfectly normal for evergreens to lose inner needles because of lack of sunlight.  If it continues to develop new growth this spring, it will survive.  However, I note that the most needle loss is next to another evergreen/shrub.  Your fir tree is probably lacking the full sun it needs.  Overcrowding tends to breed diseases.  Consider maybe taking it down if it continues to struggle.

Interesting! The trees around it have grown a lot in the last 12 years and are definitely limiting the amount of full sun during the day. We'll do our best with the fur. We'd hate to lose it. Thank you!
