After observing the "No Mow May" drive, we just cut our grass for the first time this season. We left it high. The grass in not very thick and has bald spots. There are plenty of resident squirrels who like to dig in the grass or bury treasures. Would like to keep the chemicals to a minimum. Grass has not been treated this season. See photos. We'd appreciate your advice on how to fill in the spots and thicken it in general. Thanks.

Lawns that are thin may benefit from overseeding.Thin lawns may be due to low soil fertility, drought and heat, insect damage, poor mowing practices, disease, moderate soil compaction, or increasing shade and competition from growing trees. Overseeding works best when you want to reseed bare soil areas or help thicken up thin lawns because good seed-to-soil contact is necessary for the grass seeds to germinate and grow.Take advantage of lawn renovation to introduce a species or variety that gives better drought resistance and water use efficiency. The preferred time for lawn overseeding is from mid-August to mid-September. The next site will explain haow to overseed your lawn. Mow your lawn at a height of 3 inches and never reprove more than 1/3 of the height. The following site will explain how to overseed your lawn.
