We have a maple tree that is loosing its bark. We’d have lived here for 24 years and noticed last year that the bark was coming off. Any idea why? Can this tree be saved?

I am trying to make a positive ID as to what type of maple tree this is. Based on your images, it looks like Sugar Maple or a Norway Maple. Also looks similar to a Sycamore Maple
