Aspens leaves are dying #793574

Asked May 31, 2022, 9:41 PM EDT

Hi, we have about a dozen Aspen's on our property in Elmira, OR. The leaves are all dying on almost all of them. In the past they have always done really well. We haven't changed anything. And all of them are growing in different locations on the property in an acre area. I have uploaded pictures. It appears that it starts at the lower leaves and moves up. Didn't see any bugs.

Expert Response

We have been getting lots of calls about aspen this spring.  The weather is particularly good for foliage disease and tip diebacks in western Oregon this spring.  All the leaf wetness helps the fungi.  This could be marrsonina leaf spot   https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/aspen-populus-tremuloides-marssonina-leaf-spot

But there are several other leaf blights and issues.  If you go to the pnw plant disease management handbook, and type in "aspen" and hit apply button, a list of common aspen issues will pop up.  you can check those to see which is a good match.

the handbook also lists management advise.
