does my hosta have HVX? #793554

Asked May 31, 2022, 7:15 PM EDT

I removed a hosta last year that I thought could have HVX but now I'm wondering if this hosta has it also. I'm really not sure if it does since some of the character of the leaf is just the coloration or texture of the leaf I think. Anyways I would greatly appreciate any input on this plant and if you think it has HVX and I should remove it. Also if its planted close to other hostas what should I do? wait and see? (I was planning on transplanting the hostas to another area in my garden but now I'm concerned I could transfer HVX to other hostas in my garden if I do that.)

Expert Response

It does look like the Hosta in your photo has HVX. I would recommend removing and disposing of. Any tools you use for removing should be sanitized. I would also recommend not relocating any Hosta this season. This will give you the opportunity to see if any others are infected through the season. Below is a link to more information on HVX, including how to sanitize your tools.
