A neighbor got a plant start from a family member in the Montana-Idaho area, and it now appears to be thriving in Portland. It looks like some kind of flowering perennial: between 3 and 4 feet tall, with leaves clustered mostly at the lower part of the plant, and tall stems with purplish-pink blooms. (photo attached)

This is Thalictrum. Commonly called meadow rue, you’ll find care instructions easily online. This looks like a purple Thalictrum aquilegifolium. Generally “meadow” conditions are best. I like to read growing descriptions from pacific northwest nursery websites, as they target growing in our situations.
