Aspen snow damage #793132

Asked May 28, 2022, 5:57 PM EDT

Hi My 2 year old Aspen tree didn’t lose any branches in the recent May snow, but it has lost its shape, with many of the branches now pointing towards the ground. Will this repair itself over time, or should I take some steps to get back into shape? Before and after pics for details.

Expert Response

I recommend leaving well enough alone for the summer. Young branches on Aspen are very bendy but there is a good chance that those branches will slowly start to straighten up on their own, similar to a shoot from a seed that knows to grow up. In the dormant season next winter if any branches are still gally-wampus, you can prune them off then.
