I have two different spirea. One is a Snowmound Spirea (planted 2008) We have trimmed in different years but now it is completely dead in the middle. What do I do? Plant a new plant? The other spirea is unknown but only have of it is coming back. Do I need to trim in way down to rejunivate it? Thanks for your help! I think I sent two of the same picture. I'm not very techy!

Spirea require ongoing pruning. It is difficult to know if your shrub's decline signals a need for pruning or disease. I would recommend removing dead or declining branches to see if it generates new growth. If you are not seeing new growth by midsummer you may want to replace. Below is a link that has information regarding pruning of Spirea.
