Expert Response

Hello David

Several things to check-
- was the shrub watered last fall September through October before the ground froze?
- Was any fertilizer or weed killer applied near the shrub in the last six months?
- When did the dieback begin?
- Check around the bottom trunk of the tree for any damage by chewing voles or rabbits, usually indicated by missing bark
- What exposure is the dying section on, does it face south or west for example?

-
- It is helpful if you can attach 3 pictures—
- 1-one far enough back to show the whole tree, top to soil line.
- 2-A second showing the trunk where it enters the soil
- 3-and a third showing a close up of dying section on a branch
- Click the link in the email to go to our website and attach your pictures. Use “choose them” below the response box to attach them. Pictures should be 8 MB or less each, and can be in the format of JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, PDF.
-
-
- Include any history you can, how old the tree is, has any digging been done in the root area, how often they are watered?
- I will watch for your additional info- thank you
