Expert Response

I have a 5 acre farm with a mostly grass pasture.  It had been corn or beans for decades, and -- five years ago -- I planted it with a mixture of annuals, including red clover -- planning to plant perennials the next Autumn.  I didn't do that.

Now the pasture is mixed bunch grasses and weeds, including thistles, and almost all the clover has died.

I want to improve the pasture.  A primary question is whether to spray the pasture with weed killer and start anew, or improve what's here now.

An extension class or MSU class that I might audit -- with input from Dr. Kim Cassida -- and with beef-cattle experienced teachers -- would be ideal.

An online class would work better for me than a class on campus, requiring attendance.

She is current marked "away" and that is likely because she's "knee" deep working outdoors in fields.  All that to say, it make take awhile for her to get back with you after you reach out.

Please stay in contact if needed.

Best wishes this growing season!
