Too late for strawberries? #788825

Asked May 02, 2022, 8:02 AM EDT

Hello! Is it too late to plant either the June-bearing and/or the Day-neutral strawberry varieties?

Expert Response

March or April are the ideal times to plant, but you should be fine planting any Day neutral strawberries now since they can bear fruit up until October. It is a little late for the June bearing ones unless you are using this first year to create a more vigorous root system by pinching off any blossoms. This will give you a better harvest next year. But, for either one, they could still be stressed by any hot weather that comes before they are well established.
