Weed/plant identification #788593

Asked April 29, 2022, 9:14 PM EDT

Hello! We have a plant that I fear to be hemlock, but we aren't sure as they are quite small. The tallest we have is around 12 inches, they seem to have a little fuzz, and are flowering at only a couple inches tall. There is hemlock nearby, along th3 waterway, but they seem a little different and are huge. I've attached pictures.

Expert Response

Hi Angela-  Nice to hear from you! This is not poison hemlock.  Even before seeing the pictures, you said fuzzy and flowering short.  Those are good clues.   What you have here is Anthriscus caucalis , Bur parsely.  Not native, but not considered noxious in our area.

It also is not Torillis arvensis, common hedge parsley (or sometimes called sock destroyer with the little Velcro balls of seed that attached to everything.
