Expert Response

Hello

It would appear that your Norway spruce has Cytospora canker which is caused by a fungus that enters the tree through a wound, white resin or pitch may appear from the wound. It usually affects trees that are stressed by drought or insect attack. Read about it here: https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/tree-plant-care/plant-care-resources/spruce-diseases/

However, it is difficult to diagnose a tree from a picture.

In order to properly assess the tree and find a treatment for it, I suggest that you contact a certified arborist at: https://www.treesaregood.org , the website of the International Society of Arboriculture to find an arborist in your area.

Good luck with your tree. Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.
