Is this a female Osoberry flower? #782315
Asked February 21, 2022, 2:37 PM EST
Hi! I planted an Osoberry (Indian plum) in the garden, and I assumed it would be male and I'd need to find a female (to produce fruit), but as the buds are just starting to flower, the info I find online compared to mine make me think I might have lucked out and have a female plant?! Can anyone confirm who's familiar with these flowers? I'm attaching a photo. Thanks!

Dear Audrey:
Yes, I believe that this is a female. The stigma in the center looks fully formed, and the stamens on the inner sides of the flower look small, not fully formed, and not functional (no pollen).
