EAB & Leaf Scorch vs What to Plant #781978

Asked February 16, 2022, 8:52 AM EST

Our 5.5 acres of White Clay Valley forest are rapidly changing. Leaf scorched red oaks are in steady submission and the ash trees are going at an astonishing rate. The holes in the canopy are an opportunity, the question is what to plant in this rapidly changing climate to give our forests the best chance? I’m all in on this, not sure how many more years I’ve available to work it, but I’m on it until I’m not. Any ideas?

There are a number of good tree (and also other plant suggestions) in these set of brochures:

Especially look at the Plants for a Livable Delaware at suggestions to replace Norway maple and Callery Pear. In the Livable Landscapes publication , suggestions are based on landscape location combinations, for example there is a page for Woods Edge plants.

This publication has listings of native plants in different categories for Delaware landscapes.
