Expert Response
Hollies belong to a genus of 400 or more species. Among these species are a large number of cultivars. For example, American Holly alone has 1,000 named cultivars, therefore accurate, individual plant identification is difficult, especially from a picture. It is suggested that you contact the Ohio State University Extension Service Office, Franklin County for assistance. An educator there may be able to identify the holly or if not, there should be someone in state extension that they could call on for identification assistance. The office is located at 2548 Carmack Road, Columbus, OH 43210, phone:<personal data hidden>, hours: M-F 8-4:30. Phone before taking a branch sized sample to the office to be certain an educator is there.
