Hope needs help #781486

Asked February 08, 2022, 11:49 AM EST

Hello! I have a phylodendrum hope. We recently moved to a new home. The room it's in now has two north facing windows. The leaves are becoming discolored, a few have dropped off. The soil is somewhat dry. I didn't want to over water it but maybe I under watered it? Any help getting this back to thriving green would be appreciated. Thanks, Tamara

Expert Response

From the first picture, the plant looks dry.  Also, the meter in the pot looks to be registering dry.  Philodendrons like well-draining, moist (not dry) soil.

In the second picture, it looks as if the plant is growing towards or reaching for the sun.  Maybe move it to a place that gets indirect sun from two sides or turn it periodically to encourage balanced growth.

Here is a paper that will help you with the care and feeding of a Philodendron.

So, I watered it on Friday after reading your message.  I noticed it started drooping even more.
Today, I got concerned about root rot.  Sure enough, the drainage holes were blocked.  I repotted it with some perlite down there and got rid of the black rotting roots.  Hopefully, it will now make a full recovery.  I will keep you updated if you want!
