Linden Branch #780680

Greetings, We live in Duluth, Minnesota have a Greenspire Linden which we purchased from a greenhouse in June of 2005. We noticed that there is a branch unlike the others - it is growing perpendicular to the tree trunk. The branch itself has an approximate circumference of 8 inches. Our question it, "Should this branch be removed?" Thank you for your sage advice. Judy Budisalovich

The branch in question should be removed.  Others may need attention too.

Although many trees need little or no pruning, those that do should be attended to regularly before wayward branches get very large.

We recommend asking a certified arborist to do the pruning. It might be necessary to spread the work over two or three years.
