Hi,
The first picture is too dark to make out distinguishing features, but it appears to be some kind of stink bug. A mamorated stink bug (MSB) (that is quite the nuisance) has a smooth underside with a red splotch, so I don't think it is an MSB.
Here is a piece that shows some lookalikes. If you don't think your insect is one of these, let me know, and I'll look some more (clearer pics will help).
Happy New Year!

I hope that helps.
Hi again!
Another Master Gardener suggests that this is your insect: https://bugguide.net/node/view/3393
I think that’s the bug (thanks, Steve H!)…
Thank you so much for your timely responses! Yes, this could possibly be the insect in question. I don't recall that it had that much detail on it's body, but then again I didn't get too up close and personal either! It almost looks like a cross between a cricket and a cockroach, but I'm quite certain it is neither of those. Another has now been seen since I messaged you, but by the time someone had their phone camera ready it was too late. Having seen two makes me think we'll have another chance to take a better look as well as a better photo. In the meantime I will read the information from the link you sent and and see if I can find out more about it. Please know how much we appreciate your help with this. Happy New Year!

Thanks, that’s lovely to hear!
