Wild Coreopsis #778348

Asked November 25, 2021, 8:03 AM EST

can you tell me the variety name of this wild Coreopsis, unusual for its smooth, rounded petals. It likes some shade and tolerates some competition as seen in the attached picture: Thank you, Carole Thompson Bennington, VT

Bennington County Vermont

Expert Response

Dear Carole:

We believe that the flower in the picture is a Rudbeckia Triloba (common names: Brown-eyed Susan or Thin-leaved Coneflower). The leaves on the stem are slightly toothed and some of the lower leaves are three-lobed. The stem is hairy and branched. The 8 to 10 rays (petals) of the flower are proportionally wider than  those of the Black-eyed Susan and the flowers are more numerous than the Black-eyed Susan.

That's it!!  thank you for the ID.  This one needs some shade to succeed.  It will not take full sun.  It's very pretty.
