This insect is in our home…in the lower walkout level which has windows and door to outside garden.

This is a brown marmorated stink bug. They live outside in the summer, but like to invade homes in the winter. You can vacuum them up; they will not reproduce inside buildings, but you should eliminate them. Seal any openings in your home so that they can not easily enter.
