Odd growth on pin oak leaf #778167

Asked November 20, 2021, 6:21 PM EST

Hi! While I was gardening I noticed this odd growth on one of the leaves of my pin oak tree. I only noticed it on one of the leaves. I was wondering if you could tell me what it was? And what I should do about it? Thank you

Expert Response

The growth on the oak leaf looks like a type of gall.  There are many types.  They do not seriously affect the health of trees and shrubs and no control is recommended. Here is more about leaf galls on our web page. https://extension.umd.edu/resource/shade-tree-galls
