Invading bug ? damage on leland cypress trees #776046

Asked October 21, 2021, 2:12 PM EDT

Can you identify this damage and advise me on what to do about it? I am hoping that you can identify the organisms (photos attached) that attacked our leland cypress trees. Suddenly, the green fronds of the trees has turned dry and brown, but they had green growth beyond the damaged part.. The row of mature trees is very sturdy and over 15 ft tall. 8 of the trees are affected, and there is almost a linear change to four more that appear to be healthy.

Expert Response

We don't recognize what is shown in your photos as a living pest. Are there others like the brown thing in the photo? Pull it apart and see if anything is inside. From your photos we wonder if the trees are near a road or bare ground that kicks up dirt or debris?

If you want to send us photos of the whole trees we'll be happy to take a look, and they can be attached directly to this reply. Let us know too how old they are and if you water, fertilize the lawn, etc.
