Redbud with white fuzzy stuff on lower trunk. #775837

Why is white fuzzy, moldy looking stuff growing on the trunk of our 5 year old Redbud tree and what, if anything, should be done about it?

Are you able to send one or more photos, please? It's hard for us to diagnose the symptoms without a visual aid since a pale or white substance on the bark could have several different causes, not all of them threatening to the health of the tree.
