How do I get rid of Asian jumping worms in my garden?

Windsor County Vermont

Expert Response

It is going to be nearly impossible to eliminate these new invasive pests once in your garden. THe adults that are present now will soon die due to the cold temps. Earlier in the season, these worms can be "hand-picked" and destroyed but the problem is they start laying "cocoons" about June through the growing season. These are basically the eggs for next year's crop of worms. These cocoons are 2-3 mm and are virtually impossible to find and destroy. We need to find an organic control to kill hatching worms to stop the invasion. So far, we are still trying to find that control..
