Canna variety? #775732

Asked October 18, 2021, 3:31 PM EDT

I am having a hard time determining the variety of this 'heirloom' Canna, been trying to figure it out on google. I brought this to Minnesota and started maintaining this canna from my grandmother's garden in California, overwintering it as rhizomes and in indoor pots. The stock is at least 30 years old, not sure how old it is. Leaves are 'medium' sized and green, plant is about 3-4 feet tall. The best I can come up with is 'Picasso', but it appears a bit different in the spotting. Any ideas, or suggestions of other pages I can post this question? Thanks!

I really can't say - and I don't see a Canna lily society anywhere online where I would send you. Short of searching images and websites for a match, your guess is as good as mine - and probably better. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful - canna varieties are not really a specialty area here in Minnesota. Good luck with your search!

Good news! My Ask Extension colleague, Steve Hedman, Extension Master Gardener, suggested your canna may be an orchid canna (Canna orchioides). Google Canna orchoides and you'll see very similar plants to what you described. Hope this helps!
