Canna Lilies on Septic Tank #775698

Asked October 18, 2021, 12:43 PM EDT

I have a few Canna Lilies planted on top of my septic tanks. They are new this year, were planted in the spring, and flourished. General advice seems to be to dig up the bulb once the plant starts to die (hasn't happened yet). However, I was told that because of the septic tank and corresponding heat that generates, that the bulbs could be left in the ground. What would you recommend? We live in Wright County.

Expert Response

They will not  survive. Lift the bulbs after they are killed by frost for the best results.
