Beetle id #775693

Asked October 18, 2021, 12:31 PM EDT

Spotted these fine beetles munching ? on Asclepia Tuberosa. Warm day, sun was out, multiple small beetles and a few larger ( ⅜"). Mid October - SE Portland. Best guess seems Cocklebur weevil ??????????? Thanks in advance.

Expert Response

I could see why you thought they were Cocklebur weevils with that coloration however they are not beetles. They are milkweed bugs which are very common. There are two young ones in your photo at different stages of development. The adults look different when their wings are fully formed.

Thanks for your question
