garlic problems #775681

Asked October 18, 2021, 11:31 AM EDT

For 2nd year garlic shows signs of early rot. Picked 7/22 cured in garage, heads separated. Same problem last year garlic in different raised bed. No problems with onions in different bed. Texture of most cloves is not firm, bit soft, color slight yellowish, few cloves seem alright. Picture of cloves with problems and unopened cured head.

This does not look good.. Garlic does get several diseases if the year/soil is wet, if the garlic beds have not been rotated or poor seed has been used. I suspect the cloves are infected with Fusarium basal rot among other pathogens. I have seen a fair amount of this this season. Do not use any of this seed but start with healthy seed, a new spot in the garden. Unfortunately, we cannot control mother nature and the rain!
