Growing Hollyhocks #775661

Asked October 18, 2021, 9:35 AM EDT

Hi! I have seeds from a hollyhock plant that my sister grows abundantly in Door County. Can I still put some on top of the soil this fall, or should I wait and start them next spring in the basement under lights?

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

You could do some both ways. I have had the most success starting seeds indoors. Germination rates are better, mice don’t eat the seeds and they get a head start.

Thank you Evelyn!

I love them, there is a new variety that is an annual, old varieties are biennial.
Good luck.
